CALC Support Project

Each year, TASP designates a fundraising recipient for its community support project at the annual convention. The 2018 Children’s Assistance for Living Committee (CALC) chose Heroes for Children to be the recipient.

Mission

Heroes for Children advocates for, and provides financial and social assistance to families with children (0-22 years of age) battling cancer.

Vision

Heroes for Children’s vision is that no family with a child battling cancer will fight alone.

History

Heroes for Children was founded by Larissa Linton and Jenny Dowen in memory of their daughters, Taylor Anne Brewton and Allison “Allie” Leigh Scott who both passed away from Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Read more about how these mothers turned their tragedies into their life’s work to help others.

How Heroes for Children Help

Since 2004, Heroes for Children has provided $5.5 million to more than 5,000 families in need through their financial and social assistance programs. There is no other organization that provides direct and immediate assistance to families with such ease when it comes to restoring normalcy and bringing comfort through each family’s journey.

Be a Hero

Because of you,  Heroes for Children has served nearly 600 families and granted almost $500,000 in financial assistance in 2017! Thank you for helping us support these families, so they do not have to fight alone.

Today, families need us more than ever. Just one of the hospitals that Heroes for Children serves diagnoses 300 new children with cancer each year. Sadly, that statistic continues to rise. Treatment averages $600,000 – not including living expenses. Many families face eviction and have to choose between life-saving medication and paying the bills. Even in the best situation, cancer is hard on a family – emotionally, physically, and financially.

Be the Light

Childhood cancer is a dark world. You can be the light.

Heroes for Children was founded in memory of two special little girls who battled pediatric cancer so fiercely. One of them, Taylor, would be celebrating her 21st birthday this summer and Heroes for Children has a special way you can honor her.
